Murray siding replacement: board and batten upgrade

A vehicle hit the front of this Murray home, damaging the siding, the block foundation and the framing around the front window. With the siding coming off anyway, the homeowner upgraded the whole house from tan vinyl to James Hardie board and batten with shingle accents in the gables. This Murray siding replacement started as collision damage repair.

The goal

First, fix the collision damage properly. Then, instead of patching in matching vinyl, leave the house looking better than before. As a result, the repair turned into a full exterior upgrade.

What we built in this Murray siding replacement

  • Repaired the framing around the front window and reset the window
  • Repaired the damaged cinder block foundation wall
  • Removed the vinyl siding on every elevation
  • Installed James Hardie board and batten siding, painted Jogging Path (SW 7638)
  • Installed James Hardie straight-edge shingles in the gable peaks, painted Fawn Brindle (SW 7640)
  • Added white trim at windows, corners and a band between the lower walls and the gables
  • Repaired cracked drywall inside the front room

Details that mattered

Because this is a story-and-a-half house, the walls are tall. For that reason, we added a white trim band between the board and batten and the shingled gables. In addition, the two Sherwin-Williams tones are close enough to read as one color from the street, while the texture change still shows up close.

“Great service and very professional work.”
